genoa vs milan Tip Reason:

Monday afternoon brings a big clash in Serie A, as AC Milan look to boost their Champions League hopes. The Rossoneri are pushing for a victory which would keep up their chase of fourth place, after a mixed season so far. They’re making big changes in order to capture fourth, with Gonzalo Higuain heading for the exit. His replacement happens to be Krzysztof Piatek, Genoa’s top scorer. They’re set to complete a £35million deal for the forward, who cost a 10th of that in the summer. That deal doesn’t just add to Milan’s European hopes, it adds another edge to this one. Genoa should be delighted with the move, given the money now flooding into the club. However, it does blunt them slightly going into this clash. The Polish striker has scored 13 of their 23 Serie A goals, so it doesn’t bode well that he’s departing. He should also sit out of this game if his deal isn’t completed before the match. We struggle to see the Grifone risking their £35m forward in this clash, while Milan will surely be pushing for him to sit out as part of the deal. Will that hurt Genoa’s chances here? Transfers are set to play a key role here, with Higuain set to miss out. A ‘fever’ was the reason he missed Wednesday’s Super Cup loss to Juventus. However, the forward seems to be waiting for a switch to Chelsea, so don’t think he will feature in this one. That will hurt the Rossoneri, who needed him to rescue them when Milan played their final match of 2018. He was vital, getting a crucial goal in a 2-1 win over SPAL. Without him, could Milan’s threat be diminished? The visitors hardly have a high scoring record already, having scored 10 times in their nine away trips this season. They’ve picked up just 11 points on the road, winning only twice. That’s largely down to their lack of goals, as they’ve got an excellent defensive record. They’ve drawn five times in nine trips, conceding only eight goals. They should be able to keep up that record against a Genoa side who have lost a vital part of their team. Meetings between these two sides have been typically low-scoring. Eight of the last 10 meetings at this ground have seen fewer than three goals scored. The Grifone have seen low scoring draws in three of their last four here, while Milan have seen fewer than three goals in their last five away trips. We expect this clash to be tight, so we’re backing under 2.5 goals when these two sides meet without their first choice forwards.
