getafe vs alaves Tip Reason:

This Friday’s clash in La Liga sees two sides meet who perhaps still don’t get the credit they deserve. Halfway through the season, both Alaves and Getafe find themselves in the top six and within touching distance of the Champions League places. It would be truly extraordinary were either to make the top four come May but Alaves would jump all the way up to 3rd were they to win this. They are clear underdogs to do that despite heading into this match unbeaten in 4. An early exit from the Copa del Rey should offer them an advantage this month when many of the other teams in the top half will have an extra four games to manage. They picked up another decent result last weekend, drawing 1-1 at Girona but this will be a tougher game. Getafe rode their luck at times last weekend to secure a 2-1 win at Villarreal. They’ve since secured Copa del Rey progress into the Quarter-Finals and this has the potential to be the most successful season in the South Madrid side’s history. They’ve added a bit more firepower to solid defensive foundations this term and will fancy they can secure the points here. Overall they do look the more likely victors. Although Alaves performed reasonably well last weekend, the departure of Ibai Gomez to Athletic Bilbao, followed almost immediately by an injury to their other star winger Jony, will hurt them in the long run. They don’t have players of a comparable quality to bring in and without their two most creative players, it’s hard to see them creating many opportunities in this one. Getafe’s defence is well equipped to deal with Alaves’ aerial threat up top and will fancy they can improve on an impressive 56% clean sheet ratio at home. This match features two of La Liga’s best four defences in terms of goals conceded this term. Alaves are likely to come with a cautious approach and it could be something of a chess match here between two of the division’s most organised sides. The hosts have a bit more firepower and with the likes of Angel and Jorge Molina in decent form, they should be able to force a breakthrough at some point in the game. Therefore backing Getafe & Under 2.5 Goals could be worth considering, particularly given 79% of Getafe games in La Liga this term have produced two or fewer goals.
