kilmarnock vs rangers Tip Reason:

Even the most die-hard Kilmarnock fans probably didn’t envisage their side being just a single point off top spot at the end of January, though that is where Killie find themselves. Steve Clarke’s men have won each of their last two league matches, while they’ve avoided defeat in each of their last four. Facing Rangers won’t be easy, but the hosts are expected to be up for the fight, especially in front of their own fans. Kilmarnock did taste defeat against another of the title challengers not that long ago, as they went to Celtic Park and returned off the back of a 5-1 drubbing, though punters shouldn’t read too much into that. There’s a sizable difference between visiting Glasgow’s big two and hosting them. After all, Killie got the better of Celtic at Rugby Park earlier in the season – a victory that they’ll no doubt be looking to draw upon on Wednesday evening. In terms of what they’ve done at home, Killie have impressed this season. Wednesday’s hosts have lost just two of their ten home games, while they’ve won seven of the other eight, including each of their last four. Clarke’s men have notched a pleasing average of 1.9 goals at Rugby Park, while they’ve done an excellent job of scoring more than they’ve conceded. They’re currently conceding just 0.8 goals on average when playing in front of a home crowd. Wednesday’s hosts have also shaped well in terms of creativity, as they currently boast an average expected goal difference of + +0.87. As Kilmarnock have thrived at home, Rangers have done well on their travels. Steven Gerrard’s visitors are now unbeaten in six on the road, though they’ve only won one of their last three. In terms of goals scored, Rangers haven’t gone mad away from home; they’ve averaging 1.5 goals per game and have notched more than once in five out of ten. Such stats are by no means poor, but they’re not overly menacing. From an expected goals point of view, Rangers’ efforts on the road measure up well to Kilmarnock’s at home. Gerrard’s men currently boast an average expected goal difference of +0.83. In terms of attacking quality, it is the visitors who probably have that little bit more about them, though they’ve not exactly set the world alight on the road. In fact, they’ve done no more away than Killie have at home, so it’s hard to see why the visitors are so short in the early betting. Kilmarnock have proved that they’re very tough to beat at home, while they’ve got an excellent habit of creating that bit more than they give away. Furthermore, Rangers have shown that they’re susceptible to a slip-up on their travels, as they recently drew against both Dundee and Hibernian. All things considered, at a generous-looking price, it’s very easy to back the hosts to avoid defeat.
