lille vs amiens Tip Reason:

Lille didn’t enjoy the best finish to 2018 as they won only one of their final three games. They continued this lacklustre form into their first match of this year in the cup against Ligue 2 Sochaux-Montbéliard; Lille won 1-0 but it wasn’t the most confident performance from les Dogues. It continued this uncertainty at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy although this was quelled last week when they thrashed Caen 3-1 away from home. Lille looked back to their best with the front four of Ikoné, Bamba, Pépé and Leão in full flow as they put three past les Caennaise. Lille finished 17th last year but have been fantastic this season as they currently sit 2nd in Ligue 1. The aforementioned front four has been manager Christophe Galtier’s pride and glory as they have scored 26 goals between them. Lille have also kept the fifth best defensive record this season with just 20 goals conceded after 20 games; Jose Fonte and Adama Soumaoro have been rocks for Lille at centre-back. Lille will be hoping to continue their good form with a win over Amiens but the Unicorns have won two of the last three clashes between the two sides. Amiens currently sit in 17th position in Ligue 1, just a single point above the relegation zone and they could do with a massive result to create some distance between them and the bottom three. They haven’t looked capable of that recently though with just one clean sheet in their last seven league matches. However, they have showed semblances of improvement with their last two games being noteworthy. They managed to keep a clean sheet at home to Angers who were on a good goalscoring run ahead of the match. Amiens also managed to hold PSG for 57 minutes at the weekend before Cavani’s penalty and Adenon’s red card opened the flood gates. This showed that there is still fight in this Amiens side but Christophe Pelissier’s side are in dire need of a few goals as they have scored just three in their last six games; the news of Gaël Kakuta’s potential return to the Stade de la Licorne has therefore been welcomed with excited anticipation. Lille won when these two teams last met in September (3-2) but Amiens have diminished in quality since then and with Lille looking back to their best against Caen last week, it could get ugly. Lille’s defence has generally been very solid this season but they haven’t kept a clean sheet in any of their last four league games. We don’t see Amiens scoring though as Lille have lost just one of their last 11 home games, five clean sheets have come in that time. Lille stroked three past Caen last week and we’re going to back them to do something similar against Amiens in a 2-0 victory.
