monaco Team News:

Monaco go into this match with a typically busy injury list, something that has been the bane of their existence this season. Stevan Jovetic, Adama Traore, Andrea Raggi, Nacer Chadli, Willem Geubbels, Ronael Pierre-Gabriel, Almamy Toure, Kevin N'Doram, Jordi Mboula, Jean-Eudes Aholou and Pietro Pellegri are all expected to miss out.

metz Team News:

Habibou Diallo is Metz' top scorer this season with 15 league goals but he hasn't bagged one from open play since the 4th of December, a worrying stat for the Senegalese striker.

monaco vs metz Head to Head:

Monaco have won each of the last five clashes between these two sides with Metz only scoring once in these matches.

monaco vs metz Tip Reason:

Metz are currently running away with Ligue 2, having bounced back brilliantly from the disappointment of last year’s relegation. They are five points clear with a +20 goal difference but suffered a 2-1 loss to 3rd placed Clermont at the weekend which ended their nine match run without a loss. It was a home game for Metz but their usually resolute defence was thwarted by Florian Aye and Franck Honorat for Clermont. Metz have kept five clean sheets in their last eight games but this has come at the expense of a dominating attack. They haven’t been blowing teams away this season but have rather been more pragmatic in their play, with lots of victories via a one or two goal margin. Despite sitting top of the league, they haven’t scored three goals in a match since mid-October but they haven’t had to because of the quality of their defence. They’ve conceded just 14 goals after 20 games and look on course to get promotion this year with 15 goal striker Habibou Diallo leading the line, but can they keep the good vibes going with a cup set over Ligue 1 Monaco? Monaco sit second bottom of Ligue 1 under manager Thierry Henry but in the last few weeks, fortunes have been changing with the signings of Naldo and Cesc Fàbregas adding a lot of experience to this young side. This has resulted in steely performances against Nice, Marseille and Rennes; they all ended as 1-1 draws but were stark improvements in terms of performance. That all came to an end on Saturday as Monaco were thrashed 5-1 by Strasbourg. The Alsatians dominated the game, tearing les Monegasques’ back three apart with the giant Ludovic Ajorque being too much to handle. This result was probably coming for Monaco as while they conceded just one against Nice and Marseille, both of those teams have been horrible offensively and it just required a team of quality to show Monaco the problems they have at the back. They have now conceded 15 goals in their last nine games, scoring eight goals in that time. They have one of the worst home records in France with just one win in their last 16 games at the Stade Louis II. Mets should be looking at this record and licking their lips, and with Monaco so poor at home, while Metz have won six and drawn three of their last nine away games, we think the Ligue 2 outfit will do the job here. Monaco have won each of the last five clashes against Metz but with Thierry Henry’s side on such poor form, and with the 5-1 defeat still fresh in their minds, we’re going to back Metz to win 2-1. Metz have been good defensively but Monaco have scored in each of their last five games and we see that continuing against the Ligue 2 opposition who conceded twice at the weekend.
