newcastle vs manchester-city Tip Reason:

Manchester City’s title chase takes them to St James’ Park on Tuesday, as they look to maintain their excellent run of form. This weekend brought another success for the champions, as they beat Burnley 5-0 at the Etihad in the FA Cup. However, Tuesday brings a much different test for Pep Guardiola’s side, who face off with Rafa Benitez’s Newcastle. While Newcastle are struggling near the bottom of the table, the former Real Madrid boss knows how to organise his team when the big guns visit. While Benitez has previous against the top sides, the weekend brought another setback. A 2-0 loss at home to Watford dumped Newcastle out of the FA Cup, that came after they narrowly edged past Championship side Blackburn. The Magpies are now left to focus on their league campaign, which sees them in 17th, two points clear of the relegation zone. Despite being fourth bottom in the league, Newcastle are the 19th wealthiest club in world football, according to the Deloitte Money League. Despite that, they can’t seem to make a signing to boost their survival hopes. This clash will be Man City manager Pep Guardiola’s 100th Premier League game in charge. He’s won 73 of his 99 so far (D15 L11) – the record for most wins by a manager in their opening 100 matches in the competition is 73, held by Jose Mourinho. If there were any extra incentive needed for the City boss, that is it. However, his side have been running along just fine of late, winning eight straight matches. They’ve won their last six 28-0 on aggregate, but Newcastle are likely to make things difficult here. Newcastle may have the third-worst home record in the league, but only five sides have conceded fewer than the Magpies. They have a habit of organising themselves, which has seen them lose by a single goal in two meetings with Chelsea, at home to Tottenham and Arsenal and in visits to Man United and City. We expect the visitors to add to that, given the record between the pair. Man City have taken 46 points from their last 48 available against Newcastle (W15 D1 L0), conceding only nine in that run. Newcastle have seen fewer than four goals in 100% of their home league games, while under 3.5 has landed in 73% of City’s away trips. We’re backing City to win with under 3.5 goals to be scored in this clash, alongside a 2-0 victory to continue the champions’ streak of clean sheets. Man City’s Sergio Aguero has scored 14 goals in his 12 Premier League appearances against Newcastle – more than any player has scored against an opponent for a single club in the competition’s history. The Magpies did prevent him from scoring at the Etihad this term, but that’s not a great sign. Since moving to English football, the Argentine has scored against Newcastle in every single season that the two clubs have met. We expect that streak to continue, and we see Aguero as fine value to score a goal in Tuesday’s encounter.
