saint-etienne vs marseille Tip Reason:

Marseille have been in tatters recently, with uninspiring football resulting in unforgivable results. They haven’t won since November and have since lost to the likes of Frankfurt (0-4) and Nantes (2-3) with the real kicker being Andrézieux, a fourth-tier side who beat OM 2-0 in the Coupe de France. A truly embarrassing result that was followed up by a draw with 19th placed Monaco. Nothing has been going right at the club, and fans have been venting their anger with banners being brandished during their most recent game translating to “you are a bunch of organised frauds”, “you are a disgrace to Marseille” and “all guilty.” And it’s hard to blame them with their club performing so poorly. They have had the better chances in many of their recent games which would be excusable against large teams. However, they have been unable to beat relegation-threatened sides like Monaco and Angers plus newly-promoted Reims who have a squad value of a fifth of what Marseille possess. There are deep problems in Rudi Garcia’s side and we could very much see him lose his job of over two years in the coming days. Marseille have to focus on the present though, and with Saint-Étienne looking for their fourth win in a row, they won’t have much care for their opposition’s job security. Étienne have scored ten goals in their last three games. Okay, technically six of those came against amateur side Olympique Strasbourg in the Coupe de France but the point still remains that les Verts are on a good run. They have lost just two of their last twelve matches in all competitions, with confident victories coming against Nantes (3-0), Dijon (3-0) and Reims (2-0). They have kept five clean sheets in that time with three of those coming in their last three games. Marseille will definitely be a bigger challenge than Guingamp and Dijon but the back three of Loïc Perrin, Timothée Kolodziejczak and 17-year-old William Saliba look confident of any task at the moment. Saint-Étienne have a great home record with wins in six of their last seven matches at the Stade Geoffrey-Guichard and with Marseille losing five of their last seven on the road, we don’t hold out much hope for the visitors. The last professional meeting of these two sides saw a 2-2 draw at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard but with Étienne in fine form, we’re going to back les Verts to win. We’re predicting Marseille to score though as they have nine times in the last three clashes. We’re expecting a 2-1 victory for Étienne.
