strasbourg vs bordeaux Tip Reason:

Bordeaux have won their last two matches, but neither were against overly difficult opposition. Angers (2-1) and Dijon (1-0) are both strong candidates for the drop but Bordeaux could only beat them by one goal margins as some pretty soggy performances earned them six points. Bordeaux needed a 92nd minute winner to beat Angers, who missed a penalty, and could only put a single goal past Dijon who played for 60 minutes with ten men. These six points will be gladly welcomed but the quality of performance will have to improve if they ever want to get back to the standard that Gus Poyet’s side was playing at last year. Bordeaux have been very good at keeping the scores low, their relatively impressive defence but weak defence contributing to this perfectly, as only one of their last eight games have seen over 2.5 goals. Each of their last five wins have been via a one goal margin and this is something they need to build on as the club has much larger ambitions than finishing 10th, where they currently are. Bordeaux have a tough set of fixtures on the horizon with Marseille, PSG and Toulouse all within a few weeks so a victory here to set the tone would be massive. Strasbourg have been so impressive recently, with their five match winning streak being understandably halted by PSG on Wednesday. Strasbourg finished 15th in Ligue 1 last season but have been in tremendous form this campaign so will probably be disappointed with this loss, whereas last year it would have simply been an honour to play at le Parc de Princes. Strasbourg will be eager to bounce back with another win though, and not let this defeat get to them. Apart from the PSG defeat, Strasbourg have scored 12 goals in their last five matches, conceding just three times, and they find themselves in 5th ,which would qualify them for the Europa League if they can remain there come May. Strasbourg’s top scorer Lebo Mothiba made his first appearance since December on Wednesday and will be a welcome return to the match day squad as Strasbourg add even more goals to their attack. This will be Strasbourg’s first home match in more than a month but they have a great record at the Stade de la Meinau with just one loss in their last nine there. However, Bordeaux have a pretty solid away record with three wins in their last four on the road. Strasbourg won when these teams last met in August though and despite the Girondins great away record, we’re backing Strasbourg to do the job here. Bordeaux have been great at keeping the score low but we don’t see them getting anything from this match, so we’re predicting the home side to win 2-0. Bordeaux’s recent wins have been sloppy and against weak teams, Strasbourg won’t allow them the same space that Dijon and Angers did.
