genoa vs lazio Tip Reason:

Lazio are the only Italian side who are still in three competitions, but that’s not likely to last much longer. Their 1-0 loss to Sevilla on Thursday was a blow, as they now head to Spain needing to turn around that deficit in the Europa League. It looks like a step too far for the Aquile, who are up against a team who have dominated Europe’s second-tier competition. Before they look to change their fortunes in Europe, Lazio are taking on Genoa on Sunday as they try and move into the Champions League spots. Genoa are seven points clear of the drop zone, and they look set for another midtable finish. It’s been an up and down campaign for them, which has seen big changes for the Grifone. They have managed to get back into form of late, despite letting their star striker leave. Krzysztof Piatek departed in January, but since then they’ve managed to avoid defeat. They claimed a 3-1 win at Empoli, before drawing 1-1 with Sassuolo and Bologna. That run has left them in a comfortable position, but they’re not going to break into the top half. Lazio head into this game with high hopes of finally cracking the top four. They start the weekend in seventh, the lowest side in what appears to be a four-way battle for the last spot in the Champions League. Finally making that step up is crucial for Lazio. Ironically, after Thursday’s Europa League defeat it seems like they need the Champions League to make them a stronger European side. They have the talent in the league, but stepping up to the highest level in Europe is a little beyond their current financial means. We should get an exciting game here, with these two sides seeing some high scoring encounters in recent years. The last six encounters have seen both teams score, with 27 goals scored in total. That should continue here, with Lazio scoring in all of their meetings with sides below them in the league. Genoa are just as consistent in front of goal as the visitors, with the Grifone finding the net in 83% of their home Serie A clashes. Genoa have seen both teams score in a huge 74% of their league games this term. They’ve let in too many goals this season, but we expect them to score against Lazio in this clash. They’ve likely felt the effects of playing Thursday – Sunday, and given the number of games they’ve played this term it should have an extra effect. Both teams to score is our pick for this clash, while we see Lazio securing another win, having won 10 of their 11 clashes with sides from 12th down.
