manchester-city Team News:

Claudio Bravo and Vincent Kompany are still out for City, while doubts remain about the availability of Benjamin Mendy.

arsenal Team News:

Danny Welbeck, Hector Bellerin and Rob Holding remain long term injury absentees. Sokratis is also almost certain to miss out, while Laurent Koscielny and Ainsley Maitland-Niles are both major doubts. Henrikh Mkhitaryan is also likely to miss the game.

manchester-city vs arsenal Tip Reason:

Manchester City entertain Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday in a Premier League fixture that could have a huge impact in both the title race and the battle for the top 4. Manchester City’s already faltering grip on their Premier League title loosened a little more on Tuesday night, when they were turned over by a tactically disciplined Newcastle United at St. James’ Park. The Citizens went in front inside a minute in the north west, but were pegged back by second half goals from Salomon Rondon and Matt Richie. City were handed a slight reprieve 24-hours later however, when Liverpool dropped points at home to Leicester City. The result at Anfield has thrown City a lifeline, though Pep Guardiola will know that they can’t afford any more slip ups if they are to catch Pool at the summit of the table. The champions’ efforts in recent months have been severely hampered by their inability to keep their opponents off the scoresheet. City have claimed just 2 clean sheets in their last 11 Premier League games, and though their effervescent attack bails them out more often than not, there is bound to be concern at the club about their team’s underperforming backline. After their chasing at Newcastle in mid-week, City will be relieved to be back at the Etihad on Sunday – a venue where they have won 11 of their 12 league matches this season and scored an eye-watering 40 times. Their visitors, Arsenal, have been hugely disappointing away from home since early December. Their only victory from their last 6 games on the road came in the FA Cup at League One Blackpool, though the Gunners haven’t won a Premier League away game since their 2-1 triumph at Bournemouth on November 25th. But while their performances away from home have undoubtedly been poor, Arsenal have maintained an admirable consistency in front of goal. The Gunners have scored at least once in 10 of their 11 Premier League away matches in 2018/19, though remarkably, they are the division’s only team yet to secure a clean sheet on their travels this season. With City’s recently developed propensity for conceding and Arsenal’s knack of finding the net well established, we think backing both teams to score on Sunday is one of the surest looking selections you can make this weekend. We do, however, think City have far too much quality in attack for the Gunners to handle, which is why we are tipping them to run out 3-1 winners on Sunday. The Citizens have won each of their last 4 meeting with Arsenal, and they should extend that winning streak against them to 5 games this weekend. Furthermore, Arsenal have to contend with a mounting injury crisis in defence. With Rob Holding and Hector Bellerin already on the sidelines with long term injuries, Arsenal could also be without Sokratis, Laurent Koscielny and Ainsley Maitland-Niles for Sunday’s game.
