strasbourg vs lille Tip Reason:

Strasbourg went on a run of eight wins in nine games between mid-December and the end of January but they have since fallen back to reality with them now winless in their last three games. The Alsatians finished 15th in Ligue 1 last year but they have generally been fantastic this season, with Thierry Laurey’s men pushing right up the table to the point where they are now just four points away from 4th place and qualification for the Europa League. This is still their goal but they really need to stop the rot which has embroiled them in recent weeks. Back-to-back defeats to Angers and Saint-Étienne were halted by a 0-0 draw with 19th placed Caen but they really should have been pretty comfortable in getting a win. Strasbourg simply need to regroup and get back to the type of performances that brought them so much joy between December and January. Strasbourg threatened Caen’s goal on so many occasions last week but ultimately failed to find a breakthrough. However, this has been a rare feature of Strasbourg’s matches this season as they had scored in 14 of the previous 15 matches before facing Caen. Even though the recent results haven’t been going their way, they still have a lot of quality in their side and they should be looking to really go at it at home to Lille. Lille also drew 0-0 last week, with their five-match winning streak being halted by Montpellier at home. Lille dominated the game with 62% of the possession but just couldn’t get the all-important goal, as the match finished a stalemate. Montpellier have been serial drawers recently so it’s no surprise that they managed to hold back Lille but les Dogues need to bounce back here to keep their distance on Lyon four points below them. Lille’s attack has been fantastic, with their last match the first they have failed to score since the end of November. They have scored the second highest number of goals with 42 after 25 games and they have also managed to sort out their once leaky defence. They have kept clean sheets in four of their last six games and now have the third best defensive record in the league. Christophe Galtier’s men are on course to finish runners up to PSG this season and we’re backing them to bounce back from last week’s draw here, due to the sheer quality in their team and the momentum they have picked up over the last few months. Lille have a great away record of six wins in their last seven matches on the road, they were slightly challenged by a buoyant Guingamp side last time out but Lille still managed to be professional in their 2-0 win. We’re backing them to do that again. Strasbourg suffered a poor result and have struggled to bounce back from that but les Dogues are better than that and they should get back on track with a win here as their attack was still on form against Montpellier, despite not scoring. We’re backing both teams to score due to the fantastic attack of both sides but Lille should run out victors here, despite Strasbourg’s solid home record. The Alsatians have lost just one of their last six home games but currently find themselves on an awkward run, so we’re backing Lille to win 2-1.
