nimes vs strasbourg Tip Reason:

Strasbourg were one of the real standout teams in the first two thirds of the season but they have tailed off in recent weeks. They are winless in their last six games, which has seen them slip down to 10th in the table despite once being within touching distance of European qualification. Slip-ups to extremely beatable teams like Caen (0-0) and Angers (1-2) have cost them and with a lack of wins, their heads have dropped, as has their form. Earlier results really highlighted their exciting brand of football but that hasn’t been on show as of late. This seemed to be the case again as they went 2-0 down to Lyon last week. The game seemed to be done and dusted but Thierry Laurey’s men showed their drive to battle back into the game as they scored twice in two minutes to draw the match level and rescue a point. They have to stretch those two minutes into 90 against Nîmes, which is a tough ask but Strasbourg can still make it into the top eight if they can finish the season strong. Another great achievement for a club that was playing in the fifth tier in 2012. Nîmes played their first game in almost a fortnight last week as they were beaten 2-1 by 16th placed Amiens. Even though the Unicorns are in good form, Bernard Blaquart’s men will be disappointed that they couldn’t really get a hold of the match as they conceded seven shots on target, only managing two in return. This came off the back of a 3-0 defeat in Paris but generally this result just further accentuated how poor their defence is. They have kept just two clean sheets in their last 14 matches in all competitions as even sides like Toulouse (0-1), Nantes (4-2) and lower league teams Lyon Duchere and Le Havre have managed to score against the Crocodiles. The attack has generally been much better as they have scored eight goals in their last five games but the Amiens result will still disappoint the squad. One other positive that Nîmes can draw ahead of this match is their much better home record. They have lost just three of their last twelve games at the Stade des Costières, which is a tremendous record for a newly promoted side and this will be a crucial factor for them. Strasbourg have lost three of their last four away games and even though they managed to battle back last week, the confidence is pretty low in the players at the moment. This poor run of form has taken its toll on Strasbourg and we’re backing Nîmes to take advantage of that. Nîmes were poor last week but we feel that was more due to Amiens’ sheer determination rather than the Crocodiles’ severe lack of quality, as they had been on a good run of form before the match. Their defence is still shocking and we’re backing Strasbourg to score but with this match in Nîmes where the home side are dominant, we’re backing a 2-1 victory for the Crocodiles. We’re also backing both teams to score as Nîmes are on a good run of scoring and face Strasbourg who have the fifth best attack in the league.
