strasbourg Team News:

Jonas Martin is Strasbourg's only long-term injury with the quartet of Duplexe Tchamba, Lionel Carole, Jeremy Grimm and Idriss Saadi all keeping him company on the sidelines with minor issues. Samuel Grandsir is suspended.

lyon Team News:

Amine Gouiri isn't expected back until late this month and Lyon could be without Jeremy Morel and Fernando Marcal who both recently suffered respective abdominal and groin injuries.

strasbourg vs lyon Tip Reason:

Lyon probably expected to breeze into 2nd spot this season when they witnessed the capitulations of Monaco and Marseille but last year’s dramatic survivors Lille have been the unexpected European chasers this year, keeping les Gones out of any sort of title race. Lyon are still looking to snatch that 2nd place spot though as they are just five points behind les Dogues and are in great form. They have won eight of their last eleven matches in all competitions and thrashed Toulouse 5-1 last week to reassert their dominance on the league. They have now scored eight goals in their last two games, and even though they were against pretty weak opponents, it really harked back to the all-out attack of last year’s Lyon side which finished the season with a whopping 87 strikes hitting the back of the net. They haven’t been as potent in front of goal this year but they will be hoping that they can keep up this recent form and finish the campaign strong. Strasbourg finished 15th last year but some fantastic form between the end of December and the end of January saw them rise up the table, coming within points of a European place. They still have a lot of potential but Thierry Laurey’s men have tailed off quite drastically in form. They have drawn two and lost three of their last five games despite winning seven of the previous eight. These recent matches have been against some pretty tough opponents in Nice, Lille and Saint-Étienne but they really should have put a few past Caen (0-0) and Angers (1-2) in stead of falling short of expectations. Considering their meteoric rise to the top league of French football, it’s still encouraging that they have continued to progress but they could have achieved a lot more this season if they hadn’t encountered this recent drop in concentration. They have scored just three times in their last five games with six conceded and with them facing another quality side in Lyon, they could suffer. These teams last met in the height of Strasbourg’s great form when they won 2-1 but we aren’t predicting a similar result here as Lyon should flex their muscles against the Alsatians in free-fall. Strasbourg should prove tougher opposition than Toulouse did last week but we’re still backing the visitors to get the win here. Three of the last five clashes have seen both teams score and with Lyon conceding against some pretty average outfits in Caen (3-1) and Toulouse (5-1), we’re backing this out-of-sorts Strasbourg side to get on the scoresheet here in a match finishing 2-1 to Lyon.
