stuttgart vs hannover Tip Reason:

When they rallied late on against Freiburg a month ago, Stuttgart showed that they might just have enough fight about them to survive, though they’ve since failed to move forward and have claimed just a single point from their last three matches. They are just two points shy of safety, so all is not lost just yet, but Markus Weinzierl’s men need to start winning soon. Fortunately, this home match against a side that is below them in the table presents Saturday’s hosts with a big chance to get their heads back in front. Stuttgart did show signs of life when drawing away against Bremen last time out; they didn’t offer a great deal going forward, but they battled hard and prevented their opponents from creating too much, as they gave away just 0.82 expected goals. That was a decent effort, but they need to build on that now back on their own patch, which is something that they’ve generally failed to do this term. A lack of both creativity and forward potency has generally cost Stuttgart this season, though they’ve not been too bad in that respect at home of late. Weinzierl’s men have scored in each of their last five games in front of a home crowd, while they’ve scored at least twice in three of those. They’ve also posted respectable expected-goals for numbers of 1.54, 1.35, 4.2 and 1.53 in recent times. However, they’re struggling to keep things tight at the back, as they’re without a clean sheet in five at home, four of which have seen them concede at least twice. More worryingly, Sunday’s hosts have conceded at least three goals in three of their last four at Mercedes-Benz Arena. If positive results are to be gained, Stuttgart must tighten up at the back. Fortunately for the hosts, they’re up against a Hannover side that has been very poor going forward this season, especially on the road. Sunday’s visitors do come into this match having scored in four of their last five away matches, but they’ve not scored more than once during that time, while they’ve not exactly been creating much. Last time out, they mustered a measly 0.35 expected goals for when failing to score away against Hoffenheim, while they only managed 0.72 prior to that. The fact that Hannover are averaging 0.87 expected goals for away from home this season tells us that they’ve struggled to make a positive offensive impression. Moreover, while they’ve looked weak going forward, Hannover also struggled massively to keep teams at bay, so much so that they could find it tough to defend against their relegation rivals at the weekend. Sunday’s away side have failed to keep a clean sheet on their travels this season; they’ve conceded an average of 2.64 goals and have now shipped 14 goals in their last five travelling matches. They’re also conceding a woeful average of 2.13 expected goals. Whichever way we look at this game, it’s very hard to call it anything other than a gilt-edged opportunity for the hosts. In recent weeks, Stuttgart have created much more at home than Hannover have on the road, while they’ve also conceded less. With the hosts averaging considerably more expected goals for and conceding considerably less expected-goals against, punters are advised to get behind ‘Stuttgart to Win & Over 1.5 Goals’. Having scored at least twice in three of their last five at home and having averaged a pleasing 1.83 expected goals for during that time, Stuttgart are backed to regain the winning thread in good style by enjoying themselves against their defensively inept opponents.
