werder-bremen vs schalke Tip Reason:

Werder Bremen came from a goal down to draw for a third successive game away to Wolfsburg over the weekend. Florian Kohfeldt’s men remain unbeaten in eight matches in 2019 (W2 D6 – seven league and one DFB Pokal) and they’re also one of only three teams in Europe’s top five leagues – along with Juventus and PSG – to have scored in every game so far this season. A win on Friday would take Werder, for the time being at least, to within three points of the top six, meaning that both European football next season and cup silverware this season are possibilities, though improbabilities. Not as many positives can be said about Schalke’s season. The Royal Blues were left shaken again last weekend in an embarrassing 4-0 defeat at home to Fortuna Dusseldorf, a result that means they have won just one of their seven Bundesliga matches since the turn of the year (W1 D2 L4). It’s an alarming run for Domenico Tedesco’s side who, less than a year after finishing as Bundesliga runners-up, find themselves looking nervously over their shoulder at the relegation zone with only 10 games to go. On the positive side, strikers Guido Burgstaller and Breel Embolo are back from injury to strengthen a very deflated attack. Bremen are the favourites here, but given their recent lack of conviction – the North Germans have drawn five of their last six Bundesliga outings – we prefer a bet on goals for this game. By their standards, Schalke’s recent results on the road have been poor, but you do have to note that it’s not been because of their offense – Tedesco’s men have scored at least one goal in five of their last six away days (W1 D3 L2). Interestingly, it’s been defensive issues that have cost Werder Bremen results too. As mentioned before, finding the back of the net hasn’t been much of a problem. Florian Kohfeldt has made Bremen a challenging team to beat, but a real push for Europe won’t be on the cards until they resolve this issue. His side have kept just one clean sheet in their last seven (W1 D6) and in only 17% of their matches overall this season. Consequently, we feel that the best bet here is on ‘Both Teams to Score’ – such a bet has landed in 83% of the North German’s home matches and in 58% of Schalke’s away matches. And even considering their poor overall form, Schalke do also look value to take something from this game. Our prediction: 1-1 draw.
