West Brom sacked Darren Moore a couple of weeks ago in what was seen as a very controversial move with the side comfortably in the playoff places however since the move they have won both of their following league games without reply. They beat Swansea 3-0 at the Hawthorns and then 3 days later beat a Brentford side who had won their previous 5 home league games 1-0 at Griffin Park. It’s still a tough one to understand but the instant success of the sacking results wise seems to have softened the mood. Birmingham City on the other hand aren’t enjoying such success on or off the field at the moment, they head into this game having lost their last 4 consecutive league games without scoring a single goal. They have lost 2-0 at Hull, 1-0 vs Aston Villa, 2-0 vs Millwall and last time out 1-0 at Preston. They were sitting in a healthy mid table position however they have now also been hit with a nine point deduction for breaking the EFL’s Profitability and Sustainability rules. This has thrown the midlands side into 18th place in the table, who now sit just 5 points above the relegation zone with 8 games to play. West Brom are in mixed form at the Hawthornes, their 3-0 win last time out against Swansea was their first win at home since their 2-0 win against Wigan on Boxing Day. That run of 6 games had seen 4 draws and 2 losses, simply not good enough for a team looking for an instant return to the Premier League. They have looked really good since the managerial departure however and their 3 goals against Swansea represented their biggest margin of victory at home since November, all positives heading into the playoffs. Birmingham have lost their last 2 away games against Hull City and Preston both without finding the scoresheet, this represents a tough period for Garry Monk’s side who’s focus now is ensuring they avoid the drop and are playing Championship football again next season. Star player Che Adams sits joint 3rd in the top scorer charts this season with 21 goals however the former Sheffield United player has not scored in his last 5 Championship games and getting him back amongst the goals will be key to their survival. West Brom games are generally packed with goals, they have seen on average 3.16 goals per game this season with 84.2% of them seeing at least 2 or more and 55.3% of their games going over the 2.5 goal mark. Birmingham on the other hand see on average 2.68 goals per game, with 71% of their games seeing 2 or more goals and 50% of their games going over the 2.5 goal mark. The two teams couldn’t be going into this game in different form if they tried, West Brom seem to be rejuvenated with a change of manager whilst Birmingham have lost 4 on the bounce without scoring and a nine point deduction. We see West Brom winning this one and they are a great price to do so. On the correct score front this is not an ideal place to come to when you’re not in form. We see Birmingham’s woes continuing and for that reason are backing West Brom to match the Swansea score and beat Birmingham 3-0.
