lyon vs angers Tip Reason:

The situation at Lyon is pretty fraught, to say the least. Manager Bruno Genesio said last week that he wouldn’t be the manager next year after many weeks of indecision and confusion from fans, players and the president. This has all resulted in three horrible results. Their last three games all ended in defeat, despite playing three teams in the bottom half of the table. The worst result was definitely their 3-1 loss at home to 18th placed Dijon. Lyon were just too lax in attack and were torn open in defence by Wesley Saïd, a bang average striker. Lyon have continued their fine attacking form with five goals scored in these three games but their extremely leaky defence has let them down, with a whopping eight goals conceded in that time. For a team that currently sit 3rd in the league, they have the 10th best defensive record, which really highlights where their problems lie. Eight of their last nine matches have seen both teams score and this just isn’t a good enough record for a team going for Champions League football. Lyon are on the brink of a crisis and another loss would just amplify this. Angers are currently on a great run of just one loss in their last eleven games, a streak that has them sitting comfortably in 12th, two places above last year’s finish. Five of their last six games have ended as a draw though, which has really stunted the progress of this team. They have actually drawn the second most games this season with 14 and it’s sickening to think that if they had converted just five of those to wins they would currently be in great contention for a Europa League spot. They did manage to win at the weekend for the first time since February as they edged a tricky match away to bottom side Caen. Jeff Reine-Adélaïde’s goal won them the game and it was a very much deserved three points for Stéphane Moulin’s men who have put in a plethora of great performances recently against much better teams like Marseille (2-2), Montpellier (2-2) and Rennes (3-3). They have been great in front of goal recently with 13 goals in their last eight matches but the ten goals conceded in that time really highlights a weakness in this team, similar to Lyon. The last four clashes have all seen both teams score, with three of the matches having over 2.5 goals, and due to these teams having both great attacks and horrible defences, we’re backing a similar story here. Four of Angers’ last six matches and eight of Lyon’s last nine have seen both teams score. Over 2.5 goals were scored in twelve of those 15 and as a result we’re backing those markets. We’re also backing a 2-2 draw as the clash was tight when they last met in October (2-1 to Lyon) and with the hosts in a pretty torrid state, we can see Angers snatching a point. Lyon will surely be more concentrated now that the managerial future has been confirmed but their poor form cannot be changed and we think that will have a major effect on the minds of the players.
