milan vs udinese Tip Reason:

After their defeat in the Milan derby, AC would’ve been hoping that a trip to Sampdoria brought about a turnaround in fortunes, though Gennaro Gattuso’s men were once again on the end of a defeat. Having lost two on the spin, I Rossoneri are in danger of dropping out of the top four, especially since their closest pursuers Lazio have a game in hand. Fortunately, Tuesday’s home game against a struggling Udinese side represents a good opportunity to bounce back. Milan could have few complaints with their defeat against Sampdoria last time out. Manager Gattuso stated that his side were unlucky, though if we scratch beneath the surface, it’s difficult to go along with that. Not only did Sampdoria come out on top considerably in terms of both shots and shots on target, but they also created 1.57 expected goals for, which stands up well next to the 0.56 posted by Milan. On their own patch, Milan have been tough to beat for a while, as they’ve lost just one of their last six, four of which they’ve won, though they’ve not been amazingly impressive going forward. An average of 1.67 goals for is certainly respectable, though their average of 1.4 expected goals for isn’t great, at least not for a side challenging for the top four, while their recent expected-goals for numbers of 1.6, 1.01, 0.73, 1.5 and 0.98 suggest that Gattuso’s men have been a bit tame going forward. However, while they’ve perhaps not been menacing offensively, they’ve not done badly at the back. Milan have conceded in just one of their last six at home, while they’ve surrendered an average of just a single goal per game and an average of 1.16 expected goals. Keeping things reasonably tight at the back is not something that Udinese have often done on their travels this season. Tuesday’s visitors have conceded a whopping 13 goals in their last four on the road, while they’ve conceded an average of 1.77 goals and have shipped an average of 1.55 expected goals. Defending has certainly been an issue for Udinese, who’ve kept just three clean sheets away from home this season, but a lack of solidity at the back isn’t their only problem. The visitors, who’ve failed to find the net in a rather chunky 46% of their visiting matches, have also struggled to get going at the other end of the pitch. Igor Tudor’s men have averaged a poor 0.85 goals away from home during the current campaign. An average of 1.1 expected goals for suggests that they ought to have scored a few more, but such a number also tells us that they’ve not been particularly creative. When we combine the fact that Milan have generally defended well at home with the fact Udinese have struggled to make things happen offensively on the road, a routine victory for the hosts looks somewhat likely. In the betting, ‘Milan to Win & Under 3.5 Goals’ appeals as the best option. For all the hosts have the defensive quality to prevent their opponents from doing any damage, they’re not the sort of side to dish out a real battering.
