napoli vs atalanta Tip Reason:

Last summer was full of optimism at the San Paolo, as Carlo Ancelotti’s arrival fuelled talk of a bright future. Now, Napoli face the final six games of the season with nothing to play for. The title is beyond them, second is basically theirs and their Europa League dream is over. After a 1-0 loss to Arsenal in midweek, the Partenopei crashed out of Europe 3-0 on aggregate. Now they host an Atalanta side who are pushing for the top four, but will the hosts be able to get themselves back up for this clash? There’s got to be a motivational issue at the San Paolo, similar to what we see with Juventus. The Old Lady tend to get caught out in Europe after getting too far ahead in Serie A. Recent weeks have seen Napoli ease the pressure in the league, which saw their displays in all competitions fall apart. Losing to nil home and away to the Gunners was a huge blow, which means that their only victory in their last five games came against Serie A’s bottom side, relegated Chievo. While Napoli struggle with their Europa League exit, Atalanta are arguably revelling in theirs. The visitors crashed out in the qualifiers last summer, a disappointing blow that saw them make a very slow start. However, they assembled a squad to compete on multiple fronts, which has led to competition for places and a few months of excellent form. La Dea have a Coppa Italia semi-final second leg on Thursday, but first, they are continuing their top four push. They went into the weekend just two points off fourth. The visitors will be confident of a result here, as they look for revenge following a defeat to the Partenopei in the reverse fixture. Napoli handed Atalanta their sixth Serie A defeat in 14 games when the pair met back in December. Since then, the visitors have lost just three of the following 21 matches in all competitions. That’s made them one of the most impressive sides in the back-half of the campaign. Atalanta have picked up 25 points in the second half of the season, only Juventus have picked up more (31) – Napoli are fifth on this list (23). With the hosts struggling of late, we can see them slipping up here. Atalanta have avoided defeat in three of their last five visits to this ground, picking up draws at every top six side they’ve visited so far. Meanwhile, Napoli’s only top-six home win came back in August. We can see the visitors continuing their Champions League push away to a side struggling for form. With the Partenopei winning just one of their last four at home, we’re going with Atalanta to continue their eight-game unbeaten run.
