paris-saint-germain vs monaco Tip Reason:

PSG have thrown away the chance of guaranteeing them the title with these 3 results, 9th place Strasbourg: 2-2. 2nd place Lille: 1-5. 14th place Nantes: 1-3. A win would have been enough on each occasion to hand them the Ligue 1 trophy but they have squandered each chance so far despite playing three teams they really shouldn’t have had any trouble beating, bar Lille but the five goals conceded there was embarrassingly poor for PSG. The last time Paris went three games without a win was December 2016 but you have to go all the way back to March 2012 to find the last time they went four games without a victory. Tuchel will want to keep that unwanted record there, especially after all the good work that the German has done. Tuchel has complained of not having the right squad to challenge for what the PSG owners would like and it showed when they lost to Nantes as it was an extremely unfamiliar team at the Stade de la Beaujoire. Neymar, Cavani and Di Maria were all missing for the match and it’s unknown if they will play this match. Monaco are still very much embroiled in a relegation battle with them sitting 16th in the league although they have a healthy points gap over the bottom three. Leonardo Jardim’s return hasn’t had the desired effect so far as they are still in danger of relegation and it’s evident that this trepidation has made its way into the playing squad after some poor results in the last few weeks. Monaco are winless in their last three games despite playing two members of the bottom three. They lost to Caen (1-0) before snatching a 1-1 draw away to Guingamp through Stevan Jovetic’s 94th minute equaliser. These were really six points there for the taking with the opponents in dire straits but Monaco couldn’t muster anything of quality for them to deserve any more than they got. Monaco were much more impressive last week in a 0-0 draw with Reims as they had 18 corners and the majority of shots on target and possession but this lack of cutting edge restrained them and could do so again as they face the Champions. Before Paris’ last three poor games they had won twelve of their last 13 matches but with ten goals conceded in their last three games, it’s extremely difficult to see them winning this match as the champions seem stuck in a rut. PSG have only lost at home three times in the last twelve months and even though they are clearly in a horrible situation, they face a very poor Monaco side who they have a great record over. Paris have won each of their last five games against les Monegasques with 20 goals scored and just two conceded in that time. Each game has seen over 2.5 goals but with Paris conceding ten in their last three Ligue 1 matches we’re going to back both teams to score. Monaco looked much better last week against Reims and with them scoring seven times in their last seven matches they should be able to scratch this fragile PSG team. We’re backing Paris to win given their home form but it should be shaky so we’re expecting it to finish 2-1.
