saint-etienne Team News:

Wahbi Khazri will miss this game through suspension but will have plenty of company on the sidelines as Kévin Monnet-Paquet, Yannis Salibur, Gabriel Silva, Loic Perrin and Lois Diony are all out injured.

nimes Team News:

Moustapha Diallo and Clement Depres are both out injured with Loïck Landre a further absentee through suspension. Pierrick Valdivia and Florian Miguel are both doubts.

saint-etienne vs nimes Tip Reason:

Saint-Étienne scored five goals in a Ligue 1 match for the first time since May 2018 in their last match as they absolutely destroyed Caen 5-0. Les Caennaise currently sit bottom of the table but it was a much-needed result for Étienne who had to prove their worth in the league. Jean-Louis Gasset’s men have slightly fallen off the pace with disappointing results against Dijon (1-0), Marseille (0-2) and Lille (0-1) which have seen them drop to 5th in the table, so this win over Caen was much appreciated. They find themselves just one point behind Marseille in 4th so there is still a lot to fight for this season but they definitely need to channel some of the attacking flair they showed against Caen into some more of their matches. Before the Caen game they had scored just three goals in their previous six games, which isn’t really form indicative of a side pushing for top four football. They had to play without suspended top scorer Wahbi Khazri in their last match but they hardly felt his absence as 20-year-old Arnaud Nordin put in a great performance in just his fourth start of the season. The winger hit two shots, completed three dribbles and even got on the score-sheet in a performance which will definitely give Gasset a selection headache. Nîmes have done a great job in their first year back in Ligue 1 to currently sit 11th and it’s clear that their ultimate goal is to break into that top ten come May. Their form has been rather mixed recently though as they have managed to confidently beat the likes of Dijon (2-0) and Nantes (4-2) but also slip up to the likes of Amiens (1-2). Their shaky defence has been the bane of their existence for much of their lax results as they have kept just two clean sheets in their last 15 matches. Their nineteen goals scored in this period have allowed them to continue their relative success but these defensive problems will have to be sorted out if they want to progress next year. Nîmes definitely would have preferred to play this game in front of their own fans as their away form has been horrid as of late. They have lost six of their last seven on the road, with two of these coming against lower league opposition in Le Havre (1-2) and Lyon Duchère (0-3). If they can’t really rally their forces to change their fortunes, they could really suffer here, especially if Étienne are in the mood. Saint-Étienne have a rather poor home record recently with four losses in their last five at the Stade Geoffrey-Guichard so this may level out the game. Both their encounters this season, one in the league and one in the cup, ended 1-1 but with Étienne looking on top of their game last time out and on a run of just one loss in their last 15 games against teams currently in the bottom ten, we’re backing them to make the most of their home advantage and win 2-1. Saint-Étienne haven’t kept a clean sheet in their last five home matches so we’re backing Nîmes to score but not get much from the game due to their horrible away form.
