sheffield-wed vs nottingham Tip Reason:

Saturday brought an end to Sheffield Wednesday’s unbeaten run, with Steve Bruce losing for the first time as Owls boss. He had gone two months without losing in the league, before a 3-1 defeat at home to former side Aston Villa. His team were unable to match Villa, but does that mean that Wednesday have been ruled out in the playoff running? The hosts are unlikely to catch the top six at this point, having fallen six points shy of the playoff spots. They were always fighting an uphill battle, having been lodged in the bottom half at the turn of the year. Things started to pick up for Wednesday when Bruce arrived in February, while he has led his team to some impressive results since taking over. There are obvious signs of progress, but little chance of promotion. Nottingham Forest are another side who could see the playoffs as out of their reach. They were beaten at the weekend, which has left them five points off Bristol City. Martin O’Neill’s side haven’t really impressed us in the last few months, while their away record has been dire. A failure to pick up points on the road could have put them out of the playoff running already, so will they come up short at Hillsborough this weekend? Forest were beaten 2-1 at Rotherham on Saturday, adding to their struggles on the road. The visitors have picked up 65% of their points at their own ground this season, while they’ve won just three of their 20 away games. They’ve lost two of their last three, with their only point in that time coming at bottom side Ipswich. They’ve failed to win any of their last 11 on the road, a record which we expect to be extended on Tuesday night. Sheffield Wednesday have won seven of their last eight meetings with Forest, while this seems to be their perfect chance to add to that great record. The hosts have lost once at home since the tail end of November. We expect the Owls to be desperate to return to form after that defeat. The hosts have plenty to be confident about given their recent form, while Forest’s awful record on the road points to Bruce’s side getting back to their best. Wednesday seem like excellent value here, so we’re going with a home win alongside a 2-1 victory for the Owls.
