cork-city vs dundalk Tip Reason:

Dundalk have barely put a foot wrong in their title defence, but can they keep their place at the top of the Premier Division? The Irish champions are heading for a huge summer in Europe with the qualifiers coming up, but they have no room for error domestically. Dundalk are only clear of Shamrock Rovers on goal difference, while the top three are apart by just four points. They take on Cork – the side who finished as runners-up last term. Can they make a bigger impact on Dundalk’s title bid this term? Cork are some way off their recent standard, having made the top five in the last five seasons running. Cork won the league in 2017, while they were 10 points shy of Dundalk last season. This time around, they’ve fallen 15 points off the top after just 16 matches. They sit eighth in the table, just a place above the relegation playoff spot. They’ve managed to move away from danger with a couple of good results, but will they trouble the champions? Dundalk have had to be almost faultless to keep their lead of late. They’ve won six of their last seven matches, so they approach this clash in form. They’re heading for European action in July, so they need to build up some form before that trying time coming up. They’ve racked up three straight wins on the road, which should see them claim the points at Turner’s Cross on Friday night. There’s a considerable gap between these two sides, while recent clashes between them haven’t gone in Cork’s favour. Dundalk have won their last five clashes between these two, including a win back in March. They are heading to a Cork side who have won only twice in eight home clashes, so we expect Dundalk to pull off a result in this trip. They’ve been made firm favourites to land a sixth straight win when they head to Cork, so the away win looks likely. Dundalk are firing themselves towards the title with a great scoring run, having scored twice or more in their last six matches. They’ve hit two goals in their last two visits to Cork, while we expect them to add another couple of goals here. We’re backing over 1.5 Dundalk goals on Friday night, given that the champions have hit eight goals in their last three away trips.
