graafschap Team News:

Jurre Vreman, Liban Abdulahi, and Ted van de Pavert could miss the final game of the season due to injury.

ajax Team News:

Zakaria El Azzouzi, Hassane Bandé, Nicolas Tagliafico, and Carel Eiting are set to miss the trip to De Graafschap through injury.

graafschap vs ajax Tip Reason:

A point could be enough to see De Graafschap move above Excelsior on the final day of the season, not that it matters much considering both teams already know they will be fighting for their Eredivisie status in the relegation play-offs. Visitors Ajax practically won the league title at the weekend, thanks to PSV losing, as they now have a three point lead and a much better goal difference which makes it extremely unlikely they can be overtaken on Wednesday night. Despite what the final score suggests, De Graafschap created chances and should have scored more goals away at Vitesse last weekend, but instead were severely let down by some woeful defending. De Graafschap found themselves 2-0 down at the break with one of their own players, Straalman being credited with an own goal, and things went from bad to worse in the second half. Vitesse went 5-0 up before El Jebli managed to score a consolation goal for the visitors in the eighty-sixth, and even then Vitesse had the last laugh as they scored a sixth goal two minutes from time. Ajax went behind at home to Utrecht in the very first minute, but recovered well and lead 2-1 at the break thanks to goals from Huntelaar and van de Beek. The second forty-five was tight and tense for a while until Tadic put Ajax 3-1 up with fifteen minutes left on the clock, and another five minutes later the Serbian had his second goal of the game from the penalty spot to wrap up a 4-1 win and, barring a miracle, the Eredivisie title. The form of both teams heading into Wednesday’s match, their performances over the last month or so, and their head to head record since 2011, all points towards an Ajax win with both teams to score. Ajax have won six of their last seven matches against De Graafschap, and four of the last six competitive encounters between the pair have seen both teams score. De Graafschap have lost four of their last six matches, while Ajax have won five of their last six matches, and four of De Graafschap’s last six and three of Ajax’s last five matches have seen both teams score. Ajax will want to end an impressive season on a high, while De Graafschap could rest one or two key players ahead of the relegation play-offs, and that’s why we’re backing a 4-2 win for the visitors on Wednesday. El Jebli needs one more goal to reach double figures in the Eredivisie for De Graafschap this season, while Tadic, who has twenty-six goals to his name, is going to at least need two goals to share the Golden Boot award with PSV’s de Jong and possibly more if the Dutch forward manages to score on the final day as well. We’re confident that Ajax will win and both teams will score on Wednesday, and have predicted a final scoreline of 4-2. Ajax have been so impressive in the second half of the season and head into the final game of the season as the form favourites. The visitors have a great record against their guests, but this fixture often ends up with both teams on the scoreboard.
