sturm-graz Team News:

Fabian Koch is suspended for the hosts, though they have few other absentees at present.

salzburg Team News:

The visitors have several absentees at present. Jasper van der Werff is out, as are Anreas Ulmer, Marin Pongracic and Enock Mwepu. Youba Diara is unlikely to feature either.

sturm-graz vs salzburg Head to Head:

Salzburg have a pleasing recent record in this fixture, as they’ve won three of the last five renewals. They’re also unbeaten in their last seven against Sturm Graz. When the teams met last month, Salzburg won by three goals to one, though Sturm Graz did hold the champions to a 0-0 draw back in March.

sturm-graz vs salzburg Tip Reason:

It’s been a solid campaign for Sturm Graz, who’re currently on course to finish 4th, which would mean that they’d go into the Europa League qualifiers. However, if they can win each of their last two matches, then there’s a chance that they could finish 3rd, which would result in them bypassing the UEL qualifiers thus going straight into the hat for the group draw. Saturday’s visitors have little to worry about, as they’ve already secured the title and have thus qualified for the Champions League. For all Sturm Graz have done well this season, they’ve not exactly thrived on their own patch. In fact, somewhat unusually, Sunday’s hosts have done better away from home than they have at UPC-Arena. At home, Graz have won just four out of 15, while they’ve only scored 19 goals. Such a total won’t strike fear into the hearts of the visitors, who’ve scored 33 on their travels. In addition to a rather displeasing home record, Sturm Graz have struggled at this venue in recent times. They were beaten by Austria Vienna last time out, as they shipped three goals and conceded just once in reply. They were perhaps slightly hard done by on that occasion, as they clocked 1.24 expected goals and conceded 1.53, but they didn’t do enough to offer more than the visitors going forward. Much of the same can be said for when they lost 2-3 against LASK Linz prior to that. On that occasion, they shipped 1.64 expected goals and created just 0.88. Improvement is needed if they’re to get a result against a side like Salzburg. Even on the road this season, Salzburg have impressed; they’ve scored plenty of goals and have made light work of collecting points. However, they’ve not been immune to conceding goals of late. Sunday’s visitors have conceded at least once inn each of their last three on the road, so perhaps there is hope for the hosts, who’ve scored in each of their last three at home. The fact that the season is essentially over for Salzburg, who’re going to win the title, should bode well for the hosts, though they should expect anything other than an easy ride defensively. In the betting, ‘Over 2.5 Goals & Both Teams to Score’ stands out as a viable option. Salzburg, who’ve scored an average of 2.25 goals away from home this season, have more than enough quality to hurt the hosts, but defensive insecurities have crept into their game on the road of late, so it would be no surprise if they were to be caught out. Add in the fact that the pair average 3.3 expected goals for between them in their respective home and away games and it’s easy to feel that the chances of a relatively high-scoring game, where both teams notch, are fractionally greater than the current odds suggest.
