utrecht Team News:

A knee injury looks set to keep Simon Makienok out of the final game of the season for the hosts.

heerenveen Team News:

Jan Bekkema, Dave Bulthuis, Jizz Hornkamp, and Stijn Schaars are all expected to miss the trip to Utrecht due to injury.

utrecht vs heerenveen Tip Reason:

Utrecht are aiming to move up one place on the final day of the season and claim fifth spot in the Eredivisie, but in order to do so they must better Vitesse’s result on Wednesday night as, despite both teams being on fifty points, their rival’s goal difference is ten goals better off. Heerenveen provide the opposition on Wednesday night and they also need the points if they are to stand any chance of finishing in the top half of the table. The visitors currently sit in eleventh place, three points off Willem II in ninth, and have a better goal difference than the two teams directly above them, but will need results elsewhere to go in their favour on the final day. Utrecht made the perfect start away at Ajax on Sunday, as Boussaid put the visitors in front in the very first minute. However, that early lead proved only to be a false dawn as Ajax scored twice in the first half to lead at the break and twice in the second forty-five to wrap up a 4-1 win. Already relegated Breda gave a good account of themselves away at Heerenveen and probably should have been in front at the interval. However, Lammers broke the deadlock for the hosts in the sixty-ninth minute as Breda’s defensive frailties reared their ugly head once again. The visitors did respond well to going behind though, equalising in the eighty-first minute, but in the final minute of the ninety, van Bergen was afforded too much time and space by the Breda defence and punished them with a winning goal for Heerenveen. The head to head record between these two teams over the last two years, coupled with their performances in the Eredivisie over the last month or so, all point towards both teams scoring and over 2.5 goals being produced on Wednesday, and we’re backing the game to end in a draw. Both teams have scored and over 2.5 goals have been produced in the last seven meetings between these two clubs, five of the last seven encounters between the two clubs have produced over 3.5 goals. Four of Utrecht’s last seven and three of Heerenveen’s last four matches have seen both teams score and over 2.5 goals. Utrecht have won one of their last five matches, and Heerenveen have won two of their last five, and with neither team in great form but both needing the points, we can see a competitive ninety minutes between the pair ending all square. Kerk and Gustafson joint top score for Utrecht this season with eight goals a piece in the Eredivisie, while Lammers and Vlap lead the way with an impressive sixteen goals each in the league for Heerenveen. We’re confident that both teams will score and over 2.5 goals will be produced in Wednesday’s match, and have predicted a final scoreline of 3-3. When these two sides meet they always seem to produce goals, and we’re expecting more of the same on Wednesday as both teams still have points and places to fight for in this seasons Eredivisie.
