anderlecht Team News:

There are doubts over the readiness of Zakaria Bakkali and Andy Najar. New signings Samir Nasri and Michel Vlop should be involved.

kv-oostende Team News:

Andrew Hjulsager and Renato Neto, both of whom have joined over the summer, should feature for the visitors.

anderlecht vs kv-oostende Head to Head:

Anderlecht have done well in this fixture in recent times, winning four of the last five renewals. When the teams last met, Anderlecht won by two goals to nil, while they won by five goals to two when they last faced Oostende at Constant Vanden Stock Stadium.

anderlecht vs kv-oostende Tip Reason:

Last season is one to forget as far as Anderlecht are concerned. They went into the campaign with eyes on challenging top spot, but they fell massively short, eventually finishing bottom of the championship group, which consists of six teams. They’ll be hoping to do much better this time around. Once things got serious and the league split last season, Anderlecht had real trouble scoring goals. In ten championship group games, they scored just eight goals, which is less than each of their five rivals. Not only did they fail to score the required amount of goals, but they also conceded too many, shipping 19 in ten. Again, more than any of their five rivals. Improvement is thus needed at both ends. Over the summer, Anderlecht, who’re now co-managed by ex-Premier League players Vincent Kompany and Simon Davies, haven’t really addressed their goal-scoring woes, as they’re yet to sign a striker. They have re-signed Landry Dimata, who notched 13 goals when on loan at Constant Vanden Stock Stadium, but more may be needed. What the new bosses have done is try to improve creativity by bringing in attacking midfield duo Michel Vlop from Heerenveen and veteran Samir Nasri from West Ham. Such signings should make Anderlecht more threatening. Oostende have also had a reasonably busy summer in the transfer market. They’ve brought in experienced Venezuelan midfielder Ronald Vargas from Newcastle Jets, while Andrew Hjulsager has joined from Celta Vigo. Sunday’s visitors have also signed Renato Neto from Gent, who had been brought in to replace the outgoing Aristote Nkaka, who has joined Anderlecht. As far as this game is concerned, Anderlecht are rightly favourites. For all they didn’t do that well last season, they had no trouble battering Oostende by five goals to two at this venue, while they’ve now won four of their last five home matches against Sunday’s opponents. However, it’s not that difficult to think that the price on a simple home win is on the skinny side. During pre-season, Anderlecht have scored plenty of goals, even against useful opposition, though they’ve struggled to keep teams at bay. Last time out, they shipped three against PAOK, while they conceded twice against Hamburg prior to that. In fact, Sunday’s hosts have conceded in four of their last five pre-season games, which will worry the new bosses.
