derry-city Team News:

Derry could be without the services of Patrick McClean. Eoin Toal has not returned from suspension.

waterford Team News:

Waterford have few personnel problems at present and should thus be at full strength on Monday.

derry-city vs waterford Head to Head:

Neither side has dominated this fixture in recent times. When the pair last met, they drew 2-2. Prior to that, they’d each won two of the last four renewals.

derry-city vs waterford Tip Reason:

Derry went into Friday’s game against Finn Harps in good shape having avoided defeat in seven league games, though such an unbeaten run didn’t exactly hold them in good stead, as they left Finn Park empty handed, losing by a goal to nil. In contrast, Waterford were successful on Friday night, as they went away from home and got the better of lowly UCD. Given that they’ve generally done well on the road, Derry will have been disappointed to lose on Friday, especially as they were away against a side that has done poorly at home. Having lost on Friday, Derry now need to bounce back, or they’ll find themselves six points behind Bohemians, who currently occupy the third and final European spot. Fortunately for Declan Devine’s men, they’re back at home, which is where they’ve done very well this season. Derry have won six, drawn three and lost just three of their 12 matches at Brandywell. They’ve scored 20 goals and have conceded just ten in the process. Only the current top two have scored more, while it is only the top two that have conceded less also. Not only do Derry have a reasonably pleasing set of basic figures at home, but they have a very strong record against sides that currently reside in the bottom half. Monday’s hosts have won six of their seven home games against bottom-five teams, scoring 17 goals and conceding just two in the process. In contrast, Waterford have struggled to get going when playing away from home against the better teams, as they’ve won one, drawn one and lost four of their six travelling matches against sides that currently sit in the top half. Those six matches have seen Waterford score six and concede 12. The fact that Monday’s visitors scored twice when visiting Brandywell earlier in the season bodes well, though the fact that they conceded three doesn’t. From a betting point of view, the hosts are very tough to oppose. They may have lost on Friday, but they can make up for that by getting the better of inferior opposition in front of a home crowd. ‘Derry to Win & Over 1.5 Goals’ catches the eye. Having scored at least twice in each of their six home wins against bottom-half teams, the hosts are backed to overpower a visiting side that has struggled on the road against top-half opposition, conceding an average of two goals per game.
