angers Team News:

Cheikh N'Doye is still out with an ACL injury and will play no part in this match but Anger's transfer business has been interesting so far. They have made additions in Sada Thioub and Rachid Alioui, both coming from Nîmes but Mathias Pereira Lage stands out as possibly the most exciting as the 22-year-old has been one of Ligue 2's better players in recent years.

bordeaux Team News:

Bordeaux's business this summer has been focussed on bringing in seasoned professionals to bolster the squad. Laurent Koscielny stands out as the obvious example but Mexer and and Loris Benito add to this idea. They haven't brought in a lot of attacking quality though with the South Korean Ui-jo Hwang being their only new attacker.

angers vs bordeaux Tip Reason:

Angers finished 13th last season and will be looking to build on that this year under long-term coach Stéphane Moulin. A top ten place will be the goal for this season and fans should be rather excited by their chances judging by their pre-season. Les Scoïstes were kept busy over the summer period with six matches. They managed to pick up some solid wins at the start with good performances over Les Herbiers (3-1), Orléans (1-0) and Le Havre (3-2). The second half of their pre-season saw them come up against some opponents of higher quality but they still managed to make a good account of themselves with their draw with Feyenoord (2-2) and penalty loss to Arsenal (1-1) highlighting the quality they have in their side. Many fans were disappointed to see last season’s star man Flavien Tait leave for Rennes but the club have managed to reinvest those funds into the front line with Sada Thioub and Rachid Alioui both joining from Nîmes. The pair contributed to 13 goals last season for the Crocodiles and should help in filling the Tait sized gap. 22-year-old Mathias Lage also has signed for the club, joining from Clermont where he contributed to ten goals last season in Ligue 2. Lage has never played in Ligue 1 but has earned his move after a number of impressive years at Clermont. Bordeaux have had a contrasting summer as their transfer window has been very impressive while the performances on the pitch have been far less encouraging. They lost one of their best players Jules Koundé to Sevilla rather early on in the summer but the club has been very smart with their additions. Laurent Koscielny became the most recent signing and will add a much-needed bit of experience to Paolo Sousa’s back line following the exit of Koundé. Enock Kwateng and Mexer were both excellent for Nantes and Rennes respectively last season and look like smart buys. This skill in the market hasn’t translated on to the pitch though with them losing five of their six pre-season friendlies. They did come against some pretty good opponents with Genoa (2-3), Galatasaray (1-3) and Marseille (1-2) all proving stiff competition but they still should have been winning more than one match. That victory did come against Montpellier (2-1) but it’s clear that there is still much work to be done. 14 conceded in six matches just isn’t good enough for a top half finish and Bordeaux fans could have another poor year ahead of them. Due to Bordeaux’s general underperformance since Sousa has been appointed manager, we’re going to tip this game in favour of the hosts. Bordeaux have lost eleven and won just two of the thirteen matches under the Portuguese and that doesn’t look to be changing. They travel to an Angers side who have lost just one of their last nine league home matches and with the hosts winning the most recent clash in May 1-0, we’re backing another win for Moulin’s men. Both teams have scored in six of Angers’ last seven matches and in each of Bordeaux’s last six so we’re backing that market to win again in what should be a 2-1 win for the hosts.
