leicester vs newcastle Tip Reason:

It’s been an excellent few weeks for Leicester City who won for the third time in four matches in mid-week, strolling to a 4-0 Carabao Cup win at Luton Town on Tuesday evening. The Foxes cup win followed hot on the heels of a hugely impressive, if VAR-assisted, 2-1 win over Tottenham the weekend before, a result that helped Leicester maintain their superb start to their 2019/20 campaign. Leicester’s 0-1 loss to Manchester United on September 14th remains the only blot on their copybook this term, and Leicester are within striking distance of 2nd place Man City as we head towards October. In contrast, the gloom doesn’t look like lifting around Newcastle United any time soon. The Magpies are without a win in four games and their shock, if somewhat fortuitous 1-0 win at Tottenham last month remains their only victory of any description this season. Sunday’s fixture between Leicester and Newcastle feels like a contest between two Premier League clubs heading in completely opposite directions, and we expect that to be reflected on the scoreboard come the final whistle at the King Power Stadium. City’s Premier League home form has been consistently good under Brendan Rogers, in fact, the Foxes were beaten only once in their last nine league matches in front of their own fans since late February. Remarkably, it was Newcastle who turned over Leicester in that solitary home reverse in the second week of April, though we don’t expect history to repeat itself this weekend. We’re tipping an in-form Leicester side to see off a Newcastle team struggling for confidence on Sunday, though we recommend combining the home win with a both teams to score selection. Newcastle’s results have been extremely disappointing, though the Magpies have retained a knack for getting on the scoresheet. United registered in five of their seven competitive games this term, and this weekend they will be aiming to score for the seventh straight Premier League away game. In addition, Leicester have had a tough time keeping teams out already this season. Both teams registered in four of the Foxes’ six league fixtures since the summer, and in 15 of their last 23 Premier League contests overall. Both Leicester and Newcastle found a successful route to goal when they met earlier this season in the Carabao Cup. City eventually progressed from that tie via a penalty shootout, though we fancy them to go one better this weekend with a 2-1 victory.
