monaco vs marseille Tip Reason:

Monaco have endured a winless start to the season with their only points coming in back-to-back draws with Nîmes (2-2) and Strasbourg (2-2). Their awful defence has been at fault for many of these results with them conceding a whopping ten goals in their first four matches, the most of any Ligue 1 team so far. Their last two results were only salvaged by the good work of new signings Islam Slimani and Wissam Ben Yedder. The high-profile strikers have already scored four goals between them and look like the only good thing to be coming out of the principality at the moment. The effect that the two strikers have had is visible on the pitch but also in the stats as Monaco created an xG of just 1.32 in their opening two matches but racked up a combined total of 5.28 in the two matches that Slimani and Ben Yedder have played in. Monaco still conceded an xGA of 3.58 in these two games though so they remain very fragile at the back despite the improvement in attack. Marseille should eye up their weak defence for this match but they haven’t been as clinical going forward this season. Marseille have scored just three goals so far with a combined xG total of 4.71 after four matches. However, they did win their last two matches before the international break which should give them some momentum ahead of this game. They were pragmatic in their victory over Saint-Étienne, allowing the opposition to only create an xG of 0.52. Their Nice win was much less convincing though as les Aiglons could have won the match on numerous occasions. Marseille will be the visitors for this match and so far under André Villas-Boas they have been solid on the road, racking up an xG of 2.99 in their two away days this season, the third biggest total in Ligue 1. Marseille will be looking forward to the trip as Monaco have won just one of their last seven matches at the Stade Louis II. Each of the last five clashes between these teams have seen both sides score and with both teams great in attack at their respective settings, this market looks like the one for us. Four of the last five clashes have also seen over 2.5 goals scored so as a result we’re backing this one to end as a 2-2 draw. Monaco have been revitalised with their new attackers but we doubt they’ll have enough to get all three points over a Marseille side good on the road and in form.
