aston-villa vs liverpool Tip Reason:

Both Aston Villa and Liverpool will come into Saturday’s Premier League clash at Villa Park in good spirits after mid-week success in their respective Carabao Cup ties. Villa’s 2-1 triumph over midlands rivals Wolves was their 3rd win in four matches in all competitions, and Dean Smith’s men have started to make real strides in the Premier League of late too. The Villains were beaten at Liverpool’s title rivals Manchester City last weekend, though they would have taken plenty of positives from a spirited performance after they kept the defending champions out until the second half. Before that reverse at the Etihad, Villa went three Premier League matches unbeaten, claiming successive wins against Norwich and Brighton in the most recent two of those games. Somewhat understandably, Villa’s record against the division’s better teams has been poor since their promotion however. Tottenham, Arsenal and Manchester City all scored three times in their wins against Villa earlier in the season, though it’s also worth noting that Dean Smith’s charges hit consolation goals in reply in two of those matches. Goals have been flying in at both ends of plenty of Villa’s fixtures of late in general – in fact, both teams registered in five of their last six Premier League games since mid-September overall. Villa have been particularly consistent in front of goal on home turf, scoring in all but one of their five league matches at Villa Park since the summer, while averaging a reasonable 1.4 goals per 90 minutes along the way. Defensively, the vulnerabilities remain however, and Villa have conceded more shots on goal (18.8) on average per Premier League game than any other club in the division this term. Liverpool possess one of the most devastating attacking units in world football at present, and the Reds will relish taking on a Villa defence that has been conceding chances by the ton. Jurgen Klopp’s free-scoring title favourites failed to register in only one of their 16 competitive matches in 2019/20, averaging a healthy 2.5 goals per game in the process. Their frenetic attacking football has come at a cost at the other end this season however, and Liverpool come into Saturday’s game with Villa having failed to keep a clean sheet for six matches. Liverpool have the quality in the final third to mask their defensive deficiencies in most games however – something that is reflected in our predictions for Saturday’s match. Both teams scored in 100% of Liverpool’s last six games, and we think Villa have shown enough attacking endeavour at home this season to suggest that they can breach the Reds’ backline this weekend. We think there is excellent value in backing both teams to score this weekend, though our correct score predictions settles on a 2-1 Liverpool win. The Reds have been relentlessly consistent in England’s top-flight for a sustained period, winning 18 of their last 19 Premier League fixtures since early-March. We expect the European champions to ultimately have too much class in attack for their hosts on Saturday.
