gent vs standard-liege Tip Reason:

St. Liege go to Ghelamco Arena to take on Gent on Sunday afternoon, as they look to stay close behind league leaders Club Brugge. The hosts are five points being Liege and thus need to take all three points if they’re to have a realistic crack at the top. After eventually coming nowhere near the top of the table last term, Gent will be relatively pleased with the start made to this campaign, though they’ve still got lots of work to do. Sunday’s hosts come into this match five points behind Liege, who’re in 2nd place, and seven points behind Club Brugge. If Gent are to challenge for the title, then they need to improve on the road. Fortunately for them, Sunday’s match is at home, where they’ve been very good. In fact, as things stand, Gent are Belgium’s second-best home team. In fact, no team in the division has a better home record than Jess Thorup’s men, who’ve won six out of six at Ghelamco Arena. Sunday’s visitors have claimed more home points but have played an extra game and don’t have a 100% record. Gent are also the league’s top home scorers having notched no less than 18 goals in just six games. While Gent have impressed at home, St. Liege have been just so-so on their travels, winning two, drawing two and losing two. They’ve scored a respectable ten goals during that time and haven’t been overly poor at the back, conceding seven, but they have often struggled to stamp their authority. Liege’s main problem on the road is that they’ve struggled to keep teams out. Since keeping a clean sheet in their first away match of the season, Michel Preud’homme’s men have conceded in five straight on the road, which is a worry. In the betting, ‘Gent to Win & Under 3.5 Goals’ catches the eye. Gent have often run riot in the final third, but they’ll find it much harder to do so against Liege, who despite conceding in five out of six on the road, have never given a tremendous amount away. Add in the fact that Gent have done a very good job of restricting teams at home, keeping four clean sheets, and a low-scoring home win looks as though it might just be more likely than the current odds suggest.
