manchester-united vs tottenham Tip Reason:

Jose Mourinho returns to his former club as he looks to become just the third manager to win a Premier League away game at Old Trafford with two different clubs. Both Manchester United and Tottenham have failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their last nine Premier League games. Manchester United and Tottenham have both dropped 12 points from winning positions in the Premier League this season. Tottenham haven’t won a Premier League away game against Big Six opposition since August, when they beat none other than Manchester United. Beleaguered Manchester United struggle to get out of their rut Manchester United put in another defensively catastrophic performance at the weekend as they were deservedly held at home to Aston Villa, and many may argue that the visiting villains actually deserved to take all three points from Old Trafford. This followed on from their defeat at Astana and draw against Sheffield United last weekend to take them into December in awful shape. They sit 9th in the Premier League, and with tough fixtures against Spurs and Manchester City coming up the outlook is bleak for Old Gunnar Solskjaer’s side. In the Premier League alone they have won just two of their last nine matches, and the defensive solidity they showed early on this season has disappeared as the campaign has dragged on. They have now failed to keep a clean sheet in each of their last nine Premier League games, conceding an average of 1.44 goals per game. Mourinho looks for revenge against former club Tottenham are only two points ahead of their opponents on Tuesday, but they find themselves in much higher spirits than their Manchester-based counterparts. Former Man Utd boss Jose Mourinho has breathed new life into the Spurs squad, overseeing a win in each of his opening three games and pushing them to within six points of the Premier League top four. They have scored an impressive 10 goals in Mourinho’s three games in charge, although things haven’t been quite so positive at the other end of the pitch. Spurs have conceded two goals in each of their last three outings, and in the Premier League they are also without a clean sheet in nine matches. Of course, a trip to Old Trafford represents a bigger challenge to Spurs than Mourinho’s matches so far. Even in their beleaguered state, Man Utd have a lot more quality than the likes of West Ham, Olympiakos and Bournemouth. Taking all three points could be a stretch for a side that failed to win their last nine league meetings with the traditional Big Six, but Mourinho will feel there’s at least a point up for grabs on Wednesday. Worrying defensive stats harm both teams’ chances Considering both sides’ dreadful defensive record of late, we’re not expecting any clean sheets here. Both teams have scored in nine of Manchester United’s 14 league outings this season and in 11 of Spurs’ 14 fixtures, so backing Both Teams to Score looks a good choice here. In the end, we’re expecting a third consecutive top flight stalemate for the hosts. Two of Spurs’ three trips to Big Six sides this season have ended 2-2, and with them conceding two goals in each of Mourinho’s three games in charge so far we think a repeat of this scoreline is on the cards too.
