gent vs genk Tip Reason:

Gent currently sit second in the league having lost just four times this season. Genk are currently sixth but have won four of their last five matches as they look to close the gap on the sides above them. Gent have a great attacking record so far this season, averaging just short of 2 goals a game with 43 in 22 since the campaign began. Genk have picked up the pace in recent weeks, scoring an average of two goals a game over their last six. This is better than their season average which sits at 1.59 goals per game. Both teams have scored in 12 of Gent’s 22 games so far this season whilst the same can be said of 13 of Genk’s games. Can Gent close the gap on dominant Club Brugge? Gent are currently second in the Belgian league but sit 10 points behind Club Brugge having played a game more. They really need to increase their output in order to catch the current league leaders who are setting a tremendous pace. Gent have won three of their last five but disappointing results against Oostende and Antwerp have left them a fair distance behind in second. Their offensive output has been good this season with the side scoring 43 goals in 22 games, an average of 1.95 goals per game but this has slowed to 1.6 goals in their last five games as they find it harder to keep up the pace. Defensively they’ve been good, conceding 24 goals in their 22 games with just seven of those being at home. Are Genk able to pull off a shock this weekend? Genk have been in pretty good form in recent weeks, winning four of their last five with a 2-0 loss to Anderlecht the only blemish on their record. During this time they’ve scored 2.2 goals per game on average which is way above their season average of 1.59 whilst their defensive record has also improved slightly with their season average sitting at 1.36 and their average over the past five weeks falling to 1 goal per game. The away side have a reasonable record on their travels, picking up 12 points from a possible 33 but they’ve been able to maintain their goal scoring record in their away games with both 1.54 goals scored per game and 1.54 goals conceded. Who comes away with the victory or are the spoils shared? 13 of Genk’s games have seen both teams score this season; this stands at 59% but this figure rises to 63% in away games. Gent’s figures are a little lower overall with 54% of their game seeing both teams scoring a figure that remains exactly the same in their home games. With that in mind, we’re predicting that these two sides will continue the trend and both teams will find the net again this weekend. Gent have home advantage here and so far this season they’ve yet to taste defeat at Ghelamco Arena, winning nine of their 11 games at home. We can’t see this game being the one where they first lose at home but similarly Genk’s recent form has been so good that we see this one ending in a stalemate and we’re backing this game to finish 1-1.
